Dogman Mike & Petra McConnery

Mike and Petra,

Great to hear from you. Little Kada is not so little anymore. She is still as sweet as the day she arrived. She loves every person and every dog she encounters. She wants to go and say hi to them all. She doesn’t realize just how big and excited she is when around seniors and children so we’ve been working on her gentler approach. She never jumps up or anything, just so excited, giving them licks and wanting lots of hugs. She goes into the down position for them and rolls over so there is never any question on anyone’s part that she is a love girl.

She knows Sit, Down, Come, Heel/finish heel, Stay, Roll over, Bed, Kennel, Water, and a bunch of fetch/retrieve communications. She eliminates in only one corner of our yard.

I take her on off-leash country trail runs and swims nearly every day. We come across at least 3-4 people and 3-4 dogs every day so she is well socialized. She loves it. I also have been working on her scent/tracking skills which she also seems to thrive on. She won’t quit no matter what. If I didn’t help her every once in a while she’d be there days later! She is very attentive to me and always makes sure she knows where I am at all times and stays within about 30 ft. She is very good at coming to me even with other dogs, people, etc. I feel very safe by myself with her out on the trails. She has truly given me a gift in that respect. Even though she is sooo extremely friendly I think some ‘stranger lurking in the bushes’ would think twice about doing something to me just from her looks! Its is very freeing and I’m so thankful.

She gets along with the cats. Well, she wants to play with them but they are warming up ever so slowly. She is overwhelming with all her energy and size. I’ve been working with her from the start, getting her used to the Down position around them, etc so do believe they will all become peas in a pod eventually. They are getting used to her.

She is almost 10 months now if you can believe that! I’m reinforcing her training and making sure she is physically and mentally stimulated as we enter the Teens and early adulthood. I am interested in finding some sort of organized thing for her to do involving other people and/or dogs simply because of how much she loves them all, is extremely smart, has a wonderful temperament and disposition. Would be nice if others could get joy from her like we do. We’ll see what I come across.

Hi Petra,

The puppy is settling in very nicely, we have named her Dixie. She is sleeping on my feet as I type this. She doesn't seem too interested in eating, I'm hoping this is an adjustment thing. I can already see she is a confident dog by how she faces strange things to her, including our two cats. Night time is fine, but, she sang us a pretty loud song by the end of your road on Monday.

Thought I would let you know she is doing well, and that we couldn't be happier. I will send photos as she matures and I'll be in touch soon for a 3 day bootcamp in May.

Hello Petra, It's Sunday a.,. and we're back home,........, "Saturdays are pretty busy," huh. Thank you very much for taking care of the videos for me. I'm learning everything I can about the correct way of raising and training my pup. I've read everything I can get my hands on over these past few years and I was, at some times, quite disappointed at what is considered to be "professional." I've read everyting Mike has on the internet and I'm very impressed. I roared when I read his editorial resonse to the guy who uses shock collars and told Mike, "hey, what the hell..." The first two videos I received were the best technical quality and informative content I've ever seen. There is so much to learn about responsible handler/dog relationships. As much as I admire Mike and his vast knowledge of expertise, I have to wonder why he keeps saying: "It's common sense." From what I've seen and heard, believe me, "common" sense aint too common! I was given a lot of faulty information from so-called professionals and it really does a disservice to the person and the dog. So knowing someone like Mike is a great relief for me. Anyway, I'm looking forward to receiving the videos annndddd the "authorization" form. Regards, Tom

Dear Mike and Petra,

Kim and I wanted to take a few moments and thank you for our wonderful pup
and the experience of getting a GSD from you. There are those who bring so
much to the world. People whose insights, courage and commitment to a set of
values and ideals move us all toward a better place. You are two very
exceptional people and we admire and respect what you are doing with the
Dogmen.

I have thought a great deal about our conversation on the island the day we
met. The story of how Mike became involved with Gunther and what was passed
on to you, what you have found on your journey with the dogs and their role
in our lives is truely a remarkable story and one worth telling.

We could not be happier with Lexi. She is very intelligent, has steady nerves
and her great heart is easy to see even at ten weeks. She sits on command now
and almost always stops doing something she shouldn't be doing with just one
Phooey.

This past week she has began going to the door and sniffs or scratches to let
us know she needs go out and poop or pee. When we encounter another dog on
our walks she stands her ground right by our side and does not hide or try to
run away.

Again, we enjoyed meeting you both and wanted to thank you for a great pup!

Hello,

> I hope each of you are well and had a good Holiday season.
We are all fine. Umsa is coming out of her first heat cycle. She has
matured quite a bit lately.

Andrew's pup is doing very well. Quite a few people have commented on her
good looks.
She is a very, very affectionate dog. Extremely obedient, even off lead.
She seems to be maturing quickly. The pup seems to only require modest
corrections. Umsa has always ignored a modest correction. The pup is very,
very well mannered in the house.

Umsa is great at tracking. You would be very proud of her. We have run
some longer ones lately. She never loses it. She is very, very intense
in the track work. (As she is with everything). I am very pleased. She
continues to grow. She may reach 70 lbs.
Her color is deeping. Very deep red and light blonde. The dark overlay she
had in places is fading. Striking dog. The face is more Hexe every day.

We hope all is well for each of you and wish you the best each day.

Petra-

Just wanted to say a quick thank-you to you and Mike for your
hospitality and help with training my dog this past weekend. You are both
very gifted trainers and I am happy to have had the opportunity to deal with
The Dogmen in the purchase and now training of my dog.

I could not have asked for a more pleasant or profitable time of
training.

Thank you also for opening your home to me. It was a pleasure for
me to be able to "pick" yours and Mike's brains about the work. I also
enjoyed meeting your daughter-she seems to be a wonderful baby and I am sure
she will be a great trainer very soon.

Thank you again for your guidance and help. If there is ever
anything that I can do to help you or Mike in any way please do not hesitate
to contact me.

Jason
